  • Friends History

Since 1972, the Friends have worked to support the Ledyard Public Libraries of Ledyard, Connecticut. We have served in many ways over the years. We have sponsored cultural programs and social events, waged two successful library expansion campaigns, and raised thousands of dollars to purchase the extras our basic budget could not afford. These have included computers, software, display racks, signage, a video projection system, museum passes, and materials for the collection.

Our primary fundraising activities include our two book sales. The Gales Ferry sale is held in early June. In September, we hold a larger sale at Bill Library during Ledyard Fair week. We also have an Ongoing Book Sale at each library, so our patrons may enjoy shopping for gently used books year-round. The Friends meet three or four times each year, to plan and evaluate our sales, vote on expenditures, and socialize.

Throughout the year, Friend volunteers are needed to help plan and publicize the sales, sort the many book donations we receive, and work at the sales as cashier, set-up or clean-up crews. Willing hands and new ideas are always welcome.

Won’t you join us?

WANTED:  USED BOOKS, TAPES, CDs, SOFTWARE

When it’s time to clean out the attic or reorganize the bookshelves, please remember the Ledyard Library Friends. Our book sales couldn’t happen without your gently used books, tapes, CDs and software. Before bringing your donations, please call the library for information on times, places, and restrictions.
