too! Patrons
may sip their favorite hot beverage while reading the daily newspaper,
checking the latest stock rating, or enjoying the current issue of a
magazine. Take a few moments out of your busy day to relax in your friendly
neighborhood library. We only ask that you not bring your drinks to any
computer stations. Thanks and enjoy!
Annual Bill Library
Book Sale!
The Friends 2007 Ledyard Fair Book sale was a
tremendous success, earning over $5,500.
This success was a combination of wonderful weather, an outstanding
selection of donations, and the work of over 50 volunteers, who sorted,
advertised, set-up, sold, constantly maintained and broke down the sale.
Friends who participated in this year's sale were Joan and Chris Hausmann,
Andrea and Scott Buka, Diana and Greg Wall, Jean Scialabba, Ed and Pam
Kalinowski, Tricia Marcek, Jean Ely, Tom and Gayle Wilson, Betsy Shafer,
Linda DeRose, Cay Haffey, Ann King, Rose and Paul Brulotte, Jane Leger, Mary
McGrattan, Agnes Carver, Sue Lantelme, Judy Owsley, Jane Kish, Irene and
Harold Reed, Laverne Stokes, Susan Austen, Lysa and Hart Kelley, Mary Juber,
Frank Busch, Gail Milroy, Bill and Joyce LaFleur, Jessie Baker , Marion
Cutler, Claire Murphy, and Dave and Marie Engelman.
A big "thank-you" goes to BSA Troop 16 who
labored so intently to bring all the books up from the basement. Their
enthusiasm and numbers made the Book sale set-up possible. Thank you to
Ledyard 4H Musketeer members, Jacob Geer, Alex Wall, and Zach Collins with
their Leader Beth Geer, who at the end of the sale boxed left over books and
took bookcases down to the basement. Their help came at a time when Friends
needed an "extra" hand the most. An additional "thank you" goes to Charley
and Ben Shaffer and Dennis Murphy who helped with the loading and
transporting of the books. Also, "thank you" to Gale, Marty, and all the
staff of the Bill Library for their patience and support during the hectic
times of the Sale. And a "special" thank-you to Kim Pendleton for regularly
vacuuming and cleaning the meeting room during the sale. It helped keep the
Sale looking fresh.
A
Teen Friends of the Library group has also been
established. This organization is open to all in grades seven through
twelve. To find out more about the group ask at either library.
Now on sale to benefit Ledyard
Libraries:
Bill Library Cat's Meow costs $18.93.
Gales Ferry Library Cat's Meow costs $18.50.
Book Bag costs $12.00. Friends History--Since
1972, the Friends have worked to support the Ledyard Public Libraries of Ledyard,
Connecticut. We have served in many ways over the years. We have sponsored cultural
programs and social events, waged two successful library expansion campaigns, and raised
thousands of dollars to purchase the extras our basic budget could not afford. These have
included computers, software, display racks, signage, a video projection system, museum
passes, and materials for the collection.
Our primary fundraising
activities include our two book sales. The Gales Ferry sale is held in early June. In
September, we hold a larger sale at Bill Library during Ledyard Fair week. Recently, we
have added an Ongoing Book Sale at each library, so our patrons may enjoy shopping for
gently used books year-round. The Friends meet three or four times each year, to plan and
evaluate our sales, vote on expenditures, and socialize.
Throughout the year, Friend
volunteers are needed to help plan and publicize the sales, sort the many book donations
we receive, and work at the sales as cashier, set-up or clean-up crews. Willing hands and
new ideas are always welcome. Wont you join us?
WANTED:
USED BOOKS, TAPES, CDs,
SOFTWARE
When its time to clean out
the attic or reorganize the bookshelves, please remember the Ledyard Library Friends. Our
book sales couldnt happen without your gently used books, tapes, CDs and
software. Before bringing your donations, please call the library for information on
times, places, and restrictions.
