WHAT'S NEW!

Melissa Bates joined our staff in November
of 2002 as the new Children's Librarian. Melissa previously worked in Children's and Young
Adult Services in the North Haven and Cheshire Libraries. She resides in Durham with her
husband and her 2 year old son. Be sure and stop in the Children's Library and meet
Melissa.
"Love Your Library Kids" is a new program that allows children to share their love of reading by purchasing a book and donating it to the library so other children can enjoy it also. Starting on Jan. 23, 2003 a Valentine Sharing Tree with titles of books will be available at the library. Children can choose a title and purchase the book. The donor's name will be placed in the book for all to see. A presentation reception will acknowledge all participants on Thursday, February 13th.
Proceeds from PALS fundraising events have
provided free passes to the Peabody Museum, Connecticut River Museum, New England Air Museum, Wadsworth Atheneum, Florence Griswold Museum, Dinosaur State Park, Science Center of Connecticut, and the Roaring Brook Nature Center as well as reduced price passes to the Mystic Aquarium, Mashantucket Pequot Museum, New Britain Museum of American Art and the Timexpo Museum. These passes are checked out to library
patrons for two days.
Do you love to read? Would you like to meet other book lover's? Why not join the Book Lover's Circle book discussion group. The group meets on the first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Copies of the current book are available at the library.
You can now access the library's catalog using the Internet. Just go to www.durhamlibrary.lioninc.org. Click on Online Catalog.
You can search for items, renew items you have checked out and even place a hold on a book without leaving your home.
