Joan Gillespie, Lion’s new director, was introduced, as was Pat Griswold
from East Haddam.
Discussion followed on the creation of Fast Adds. After the last meeting,
Mark distributed a list of non-marc records so that members could delete as
many as possible. Remember that the I-type chosen will determine whether
the item will be sent to Tech. Services for cataloging, be deleted upon
checkin, or remain permanently in the database.
Mark offered various ways to circulate items which libraries prefer not to
attach to Marc records (paperbacks, circuit items, magazines).
Contact him to discuss your options in these cases.
Ann Juknis (Russell Library) brought up the issue of multiple records for
items issued serially (guidebooks, government reports, etc.). The consensus
of the committee is that serial holdings must be attached to serial Marc
records. Lion is editing existing records to include all title changes in
the 246 field and all publisher changes in 500 notes. Lion will then merge
all records into one.
Wallingford Libray has added sort limits that allow items to be chosen by
format, using the 007 field in the bib. record.
Karan reminds us to search the system right before an ISR is created – not
the hour or day before. There are a lot of duplicate records being created.
Check out the Otis Library website for their new book list.
At the request of the Lion Board, we arranged meeting dates for the
remainder of the year.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, June 4th at 9:30. Future meetings are
scheduled for Wednesday Sept. 10 and Wednesday Nov. 5. Meetings will be
held at the Russell Library and begin at 9:30.
