MILLENNIUM SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT !

Libraries Online, Inc. (LION) and its 21 member libraries are pleased to announce the migration of their shared integrated library system to the Millennium integrated library technology platform, a product of Innovative Interfaces, Inc. The Millennium system will replace the current Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and the circulation, cataloging and acquisitions functions. Library users who access library services via the Internet will see improved services for managing their accounts, viewing community information and searching the OPAC.

The member libraries are busy preparing for the new system which is expected to be operational in late September. The current union database contains 700,000 records representing titles held by the libraries along with 3,100 community information files, local newspaper indexes with 143,768 entries and other administrative files. As with any system migration, some of this information must be restructured and some must be corrected before it can be loaded into the new system. This work will be continuing through the summer.

The LION member libraries wish to assure their users that any disruption in services as a result of the migration will be kept to a minimum. Library staff will attend Millennium training sessions during the summer so that they will be able to assist library users with learning about the new functions. Library users are invited to inquire at their local library about the availability of the new system and the ways that it will affect them.
